AmShip unions float new offer to save Lorain yard
Lorain's American Ship Building Yard unions plan a fresh proposal this week on a multi million Navy contract. Boilermakers Local 358 President Jim Unger says the plan mirrors January's rejected bid and would grant 3 percent annual wage raises through 1986 plus small cost of living increases. In return workers would concede major work rule changes to cut labor costs, offsetting the raises. Unger notes Tampa facilities will handle much of the Navy T 5 work, despite Lorain having the required capacity.
