Turfing protest grows in Ridgeville as mayor refuses to drop charges

Goldberg debt load tops 2.1 million in bankruptcy filing

The Meyer Goldberg grocery chain lists at least 2,170,995 owed to 548 creditors in federal court records with assets of 542,013 largely cash from last store sales. Largest creditors include The City Bank Co. of Lorain and Central Trust Co. of Northern Ohio, while Frances Goldberg is the third largest. Additional taxes and local debts are noted, with several suppliers and local firms listed among unsecured claims.

George Day remembered as lifelong Elyria patriot and persistent volunteer

George Myron Day, 93, longtime Elyria resident and civic figure, died at the Elyria Home after a long illness. A Sheffield-born, Park landmark figure, he jogged 125 miles at 83 to aid the YMCA and logged 2,000 miles by 87 and 2,500 by 88 in service to veterans, schools, and patriotic observances. He never missed a monthly 6 am visit to bid draftees farewell, except the day of his appendix surgery. Turn to page B-12 for further remembrance.
