Three Elyria homemakers demonstrated and discussed Hungarian cooking and Oriental dishes at a YWCA program. Mrs. Ronald Trould and Mrs. Calvin Smith led sessions. Traditional Chicken Paprikash Recipe Card
Directions for chicken paprikash with disjointed measurements. Brown onion in shortening, add chicken and seasonings to brown. Simmer with water until tender. Mix water with flour, add sour cream and flour mixture to drippings, boil, then return chicken to gravy for flavor.
Hungarian Dumplings for Chicken Paprikash
Beat eggs with a wire whisk until light. Stir in water and salt then fold in Nour. Stir until bubbly then drop batter into boiling salted water. Cook 5 to 19 minutes then drain and rinse. Layer in a double boiler with margarine to prevent massing and add flavor. Serve with chicken gravy poured over noodles.
Stuffed Cabbage Recipe from Old kitchen notes
A historic recipe describes stuffing 14 lb ground beef and 14 lb ground pork with 1 cup rice in a cabbage leaf roll. Core the cabbage, wilt leaves, prepare filling with onion and spices, roll, layer with sauerkraut, add tomato juice, water, and bake slowly for 5 hours, then rest before serving.

Plant-in brightens Penn State Middletown campus
Penn State Middletown students and faculty staged a plant-in to plant about 250 trees, canceling undergraduate classes for a day. The Student Government Association organized the project to address the campus’s sterile atmosphere with funds from Penn State, tree supplies, and equipment from Bell Telephone Co and Middletown Borough, plus about 30 shovels loaned by the borough.
