Case decision soon in Oberlin youth assault case
Judge Malcolm Thomson will send the 17 year old Oberlin boy who beat Dr Mary Emily Sinclair to the Bureau of Juvenile Research in Columbus as a preliminary step to certifying the case to the county grand jury. The youth has given multiple accounts since his 430 am arrest by Oberlin police after the near fatal attack on the 70 year old mathematics professor at the edge of the city limits. Sinclair was said to have picked him up for a ride near the post office Friday night before the assault over a dispute about a car ride to a Sandusky dance. He testified he struck because of a supposed dirty deal tied to a past detention at Lancaster Industrial School for thefts linked to Miss Gladys Risden. Lancaster authorities denied influence in his release. The youth has a prior record including thefts in 1947 1948 and 1949. His grandmothers are Mrs Smith of Oberlin and Mrs Dobbs of 815 No. 1.
