Adverse Report Hits Roosevelt Court Plan in Senate
The Senate judiciary committee voted adversely on Roosevelt’s plan to enlarge the Supreme Court. A Democratic rebellion undermined pro administration hopes as Pat McCarran pulled his compromise, Carl Hatch wavered, and Joseph O’Mahoney joined the rebel bloc in a bid to defeat the measure. The 15 Democrats present urged opposing the president’s plan and pursuing a defeat.
