Adverse Report On Judiciary Issue Seen
The Senate judiciary committee voted adversely on Roosevelt’s plan to enlarge the Supreme Court. A Democratic rebellion blocked a compromise, signaling defeat for administration aims. Key senators McCarran Hatch and O’Mahoney joined the opposition, leaving little chance for favorable reporting. Damaging party divisions and last minute maneuvers dominated the scene.
