Westerville Ohio May 18 damage estimated at 50 000 from fire and water at the State theatre early today. Blaze started in the battery and generator room. Most damage came from water used by firemen. Man Burned to Death in Auto Crash Near Dayton
Hugh Witt, 40, of Petersburg Florida, was burned to death when a car carrying him and two companions left the highway near Dayton Ohio, crashed into a tree and burst into flames. Hero Of Legion Killed By French Wife In New Orleans
Edgar Bouligny, hero of the Foreign Legion and the first American wounded in World War I, was shot dead at his New Orleans home by his French wife. She said in broken English that he whipped and slapped her. The shooting happened in the Bouligny French Quarter apartment after he finished dressing. Bouligny, Croix de Guerre winner, descended from General Dominique DeBouligny who led Napoleon's troops in Louisiana.

Speed Holman Killed In Omaha Air Race Plunge
Charles W Holman a Minneapolis native and Northwest Airways operations manager died when his Laird plane crashed during an Omaha air race before 20000 spectators. Seven Die As Train Hits Auto Calamus Tragedy Names Seven Victims
In Calamus Alabama on a Sunday, Walter Mumford 17 and six companions all from Dewitt and Toronto were killed when Mumford drove his car into a westbound Northwestern passenger train. The seven youths, four girls and three boys aged 13 to 20, were instantly killed as the car was hurled along the right of way. The Berner family cousins of Mumford comprised most of the victims.

Gardner shoots robber at Elyria gas station stand off
Four youths tied to a Pittsburgh gas station robbery were apprehended after Matt Gardner, a one-armed proprietor, shot and killed Earl Wilson Cole, 18, of Brookline Pa, at Gardner’s station west of Elyria. Prosecutor Don Myers helped capture the remaining suspects. Seven men faced charges and bonds were set at 3600. The incident marked the station’s 14th robbery attempt in a year.
