Gerald Scott Haislet, son of Scotty and Mrs Haislet of Grafton, graduated from University of Michigan on May 1, 1982 with a BBA in accounting. He founded the Michigan Business Ethics Club and joined the Business Students Association. He later joined Arthur Andersen & Co in San Francisco after completing the CPA exam. Annette Gasparik of Lorain was named a Outstanding Senior Woman finalist at Mount Union College. Walter Quan Jr. of Lorain, a senior at Case Western Reserve, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
UPI reports U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Mark Schlachet has removed himself from a long running case involving Ike Slodov a suburban dentist and property owner amid accusations of intimidation and a broader investigation by the AOUSC and the Judicial Council of the Sixth Circuit. The ongoing matter tied to Slodov’s 1970 bankruptcy and 1980 trustee appointment highlights a protracted dispute with National City Bank and delayed creditor collections. Slodov’s 1975 reorganization plan was appealed and returned to Cleveland in 1988.
Oberlin celebrated Britten War Requiem with the Oberlin Musical Union Festival Choir and Orchestra at Finney Chapel. Soloists Dame Mahy, Richard Miller, and Gerald Crawford led a 300-strong ensemble in a potent blend of Latin Mass and Wilfred Owen poetry. Two Lorain County highways will close this week for railroad crossing repairs. Route 511 in Rochester will close Tuesday and Wednesday between Routes 162 and 18 with a detour via Route 58. Route 82 in North Eaton will close Wednesday and Thursday between Routes 83 and 252 and Route 303.

Elyria plainclothesman was cut on the forehead while arresting amputee Clinton Slone 36 who swung a metal hook used as a hand replacement. Slone and a woman Phyliss Flannery 27 faced felonious assault charges after aiding Slone. Pu. Daniel Jaykel treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Jaykel and partner Ptl Gary Haupt saw Slone threaten a man near Why Not Lounge at 12 15 a m. They ordered him to stop but he swung the hook. Flannery aided Slone and both were jailed awaiting municipal court arraignment.
A 46-year-old Lorain man was listed in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital after a gunshot wound to the shoulder during a domestic quarrel in Elyria Sunday. Police said Robert L. Dixon, 40, of Lorain was wounded when his father in law Oscar Davis fired several shots from a small caliber handgun as Dixon drove into Davis' driveway and rammed a car around 3 am Sunday. Dixon drove to his Lorain apartment, then learned he had been wounded. no charges were filed.
