Frenzied German Drive Across Meuse Threatens Sedan Front

Paris dispatches say Germany threw fresh mechanized divisions into a new push against the Maginot Line near Sedan after crossing the Meuse. Allied forces, including French tanks and British air support, fought a mobile battle from Antwerp to Namur and toward Brussels, with German breakthroughs at Namur Dinant and possible threat to Brussels and the left wing along the Antwerp Namur axis.

Belgians Claim German Losses Are Terrific

London May 16 Belgians report German losses are heavy as Belgian forces retreat in places before a German tank and air attack. Belgian Minister Paul Delfosse says Belgian forts Namur Liege and others hold, while German air superiority and tanks drive withdrawals. Complete Teaching Staff At Huntington

The Huntington Township Board of Education completed its teaching staff for 1940 41 by hiring Mrs. Freda Zacharias from Lorain RD 1 as teacher for fifth and sixth grades. She graduates from Ashland College and now teaches at Brookside School. she replaces Miss Wilemene Mole who will move to Belden School next year.

Americans Advised to Leave Balkans by U S Legations

The United States legations in southeastern Europe urged all Americans to leave the Balkans at once as instructions from Washington were issued. The advisory was issued from Budapest Hungary on May 16.
