His monoplane Emerald Coast renamed the Santander carried 450 liters of gasoline and 50 liters of oil. He plans to subsist on brandy and coffee during the Dakar Natal leg of about 1700 miles.

Sheriff Clarence W. Dick and Deputy Geraldau announced the arrest of Charles Johnson, 22, of Leesville, for thefts across Tuscarawas and nearby counties. Items recovered include a county road tractor, 25 pounds of dynamite, and farm tools from several locations. Johnson admitted taking the tractor on April 28 and other items between May 3 and earlier, with loot recovered from his 135 acre farm where he and his wife lived. William Barkacs Convicted of Assault by Jury
