Clearview Local School District selects Tom Jama as new superintendent effective Aug. 1 after a unanimous board vote. Jama, a Lorain County native and former principal of Clearview High, succeeds retiring Rick Buckosh and begins a two year contract.

Lightning destroys 200-year-old barn in Pittsfield Township

A lightning strike at 3:15 a.m. caused a massive nearly 200 year old barn on Webster Road to burn completely. Firefighters from at least 10 departments battled flames aided by favorable winds while the home survived. The barn housed three vehicles and heavy farming equipment.

Man sues mom over ownership of prized horse No Question I'm Good

Avon Lake man Matthew Emrich, 19, files suit in Lorain County Common Pleas, seeking a court declaration that he owns the eight year old horse No Question, I'm Good. He says documents show the horse was sold to his mother Jennifer Salsgiver on January 12, 2010, and he alleges forgery and illegal transfer.

Sweet shop in Lorain to close after 35 years

Mary and Jim Grasso announce the closing of Mary's Sweet Shop on East Erie Avenue Lorain after nearly 35 years in business. The couple plans retirement and says they will take it day by day with no set plans yet. Mary Grasso started by baking cookies at home in 1970s before opening the shop in 1976.
