Lorain city officials rush to meet a midnight Friday UDAG deadline for a 10 million dollar harbor hotel project near the Bascule Bridge. The plan includes a 175 room hotel and marina with a second dock project proposed just south of the site.

New pools make big splash at Elyria parks this summer

Elyria City Parks and Recreation unveils three rebuilt pools and bathhouses for the June 14 season led by West Park’s larger pool replacing the unsafe prior facility. East Park’s two old pools become a single large pool with new bathhouse while South Park gains a new pool and bathhouse, plus expanded deck space, lighting, and filtration upgrades.

Huntley named Midview School Superintendent

Linda Huntley, 44, named the first female superintendent in Lorain County history, will lead Midview Schools starting Aug 1 with a $52,000 annual salary. Her contract runs through July 30, 1988. She comes from Windham where she has been superintendent since 1984 and holds a doctoral candidacy at Kent State University.

De la Pena plans clinic at old New York Freight House

Dr Raymundo de la Pena plans to move Mediclinic Urgent Care into the abandoned New York Central Freight House on East River Street in Elyria. He will renovate about 10 000 square feet for urgent care and may lease the remainder. The 76 year old building has national landmark status and will be restored with exterior accuracy.
