Three Elyrians die in Georgia Avenue fire tragedy
A morning fire at 244 Georgia Ave in Elyria killed Paul Trexler Jr 19, Tony Trexler 15, and Donna Roberts 19 after a farewell party for one victim who joined the Air Force. Paul Trexler Sr escaped. Tom Trexler 17 survived. Firefighters moved quickly but could not enter due to heat and smoke.

Fire rescue ends in tragedy at 244 Georgia Avenue
Lou Hull, a Northwood Junior High science teacher, tried to pull unconscious Tom Trexler from a second story window as flames raged in a home at 244 Georgia Avenue. Trexler, 17, died from smoke inhalation and injuries. his brothers Tony, 15, and Paul, 19, and Paul Trexler, Jr.’s girlfriend Donna Roberts, 19, perished. The Trexler father escaped and Hull, wounded, was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital alongside his wife, a nurse.
