Edison Homestead Restored To Public View Since 1947
The Milan house where Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, overlooking a canal basin that made Milan a major grain port, was restored by Mrs. Sloane and her mother the late Mrs. Edison and opened to the public in 1947. The exhibit includes Edison family heirlooms, models of early inventions, and items tied to the motion picture and phonograph, part of a collection reflecting some 1100 Edison patents.
