Elyria residents faced widespread flooding after a heavy storm, with about 100 calls about basement water. City water system pumps 30 to 45 million gallons daily but runoff overwhelmed streets and homes, leaving many dealing with sewage backflow and damaged basements.
A half mile wide funnel and winds 75 to 100 mph damaged a barn and a home roof on Monday in Lorain County. The last Lorain County tornado was 2007 in Elyria Township with winds 65 to 75 mph. Residents laments lack of alerts as the storm hit. Contact provided for Evan Goodenow.
Two groups organize the Spring Days of Caring along Lorain's Pearl Avenue Friday and Saturday. United Way of Greater Lorain County and Leadership Lorain County lead outdoor cleanup, landscaping, painting, and sorting near Boys & Girls Club, Lorain County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Lorain County Free Clinic, Blessing House and El Centro with meals and morning briefings at 8 a.m. and noon.
