Fire claims life of infirm woman in Elyria blaze
Investigators say an accidental electrical failure likely started the Greenwood Court fire that killed Concetta Pietrocini. Her brother Vincent sheltered inside, tried to rescue her, was treated for smoke inhalation, and released. Fire crews arrived as flames engulfed the home about 5 40 a.m. LifeCare transported Pietrocini after rescue efforts.

Cats Injured by Suspected BB Gun Fire On Hamilton Street
ELVRIA resident Katie Nix reports shootings injuring cats in the 100 block of Hamilton Street. Bill Mueller says one cat is at a vet with a pellet lodged in its chest, another neighbor’s cat needs care after a BB shot, and a homeless cat may also be wounded. Police have no reports filed, but Mueller plans to file and urges the public to help catch the perpetrator.

County to push Narcan across 15 Ohio counties
Lorain County and 14 other counties receive a public relations push to promote Narcan to prevent overdoses from fentanyl. The Ohio Health Department and the Mental Health and Addiction Services Agency fund the campaign, targeting counties with the highest fentanyl death totals. Justice Center alarms unmonitored during test in Lorain County
Lorain County deputies found panic alarms at the Justice Center were not monitored during a test. Probate Judge James Walther, who leads the security committee, said the system would not have functioned in a real emergency. Facilities manager Karen Davis said the issue was reported April 14 and fixed four days later by South Shore Electric, the monitoring company.
