Elyria officials fire 14 year veteran William McArthur for allegedly undervaluing vehicles to aid a local towing company. Investigators say he falsified 25 affidavits over seven months stating values of 100 dollars, when items were worth more and should have been auctioned by the city. No proof of personal gain found.
Lorain resident Adam Gerrard Massey 21 was indicted on felonious child endangering for beating his five stepchildren ages 4 to 10. Police say four of five had bruises and permanent discoloration on the buttocks while an 8-year-old girl was spared. Massey is jailed on 50000 bond on Lorain County charges.
Wall Street will assign a value to the Cleveland Indians as they launch an initial public offering of 4 million shares at 14 to 16 dollars each. The planned sale aims to raise about 60 million dollars for a partnership led by the team’s current family trusts, despite mixed results from similar sports stocks.
Coroner says genetic testing shows Brenda Lee 40 of West 22nd Street gave birth to the dead baby found in the trunk of her Ford Probe. Lee’s live-in boyfriend Allen Norris found the infant while unloading laundry. Prosecutors weigh charges including abuse of a corpse. The coroner notes the baby was probably stillborn.
The Chronicle Telegram dismissed columnist Paul Facinelli after he told editors he planned to sue Lorain County prosecutor Jonathan Rosenbaum. The firing followed Facinelli’s failure to disclose the suit plans and potential conflict with fair reporting. Facinelli said the dismissal surprised him.
City Council member Bill Grace proposes forming a committee to study the feasibility of starting a city run electric company to cut residents’ bills. Grace first floated the idea in 1995 as a mayoral candidate and urged inclusion of a mayoral administration representative. Mayor Keys is cautious but open to listening.
