Avon High School gym hosts an awards night at 7 thirty sponsored by the Avon Women’s Club Lions Club and VFW. Ed Haller wins Voice of Democracy. Buying power down 13.3 percent over 1979 period
The Labor Department reports real spendable earnings for the average worker fell 13.3 percent year to year through February 1980. Wages rose 4.9 percent from last year but higher prices lifted consumer inflation to 15.7 percent, eroding purchasing power. Real spendable earnings for three dependent factory workers dropped 8 percent, and 7.3 percent for all non-supervisory private payrolls. Cleveland area average hourly earnings stood at 8.30, versus 7.91 a year earlier.

Lorain County reports 139,187 registered voters up 40,875 from the 1976 primary. Elyria adds 30,106 voters up 8,930. remaining areas total 69,638, up 21,733. Elections Director Jack E. City parks to offer softball and dance classes next month
The parks and recreation department will offer adults softball and dancercize classes starting June 4 from 9 to 6 at the multi service center near city hall. Babysitting will be provided at South Central Park after June 18 for participants' children with a $2 registration plus session fees and babysitting 50 cents. Women in the softball program will play Mondays 6 45 p m at Liberty Elementary diamond two, registration $2 plus 25 cents per session. Summer activities include volleyball, racquetball lessons, and a junior golf league at local facilities.
