Maxie Anderson and his son Kris completed the first balloon trip across North America landing near Matane Quebec after drifting from Santa Francisco to Canada. The 75 foot balloon touched down at 7:27 a.m. EDT near the St. Lawrence River. The crew expected a river splashdown but wooded terrain shifted plans. Authorities described a well controlled landing and good health for the pilots. The balloon originated in San Francisco and was tracked by stations in Moncton and Bedford as it crossed into Canada.
