Abqaiq oilfield blast puts Saudi output at risk
A mysterious explosion and fire at Aramco's Abqaiq oilfield forced a shutdown of a major pipeline near Dhahran. Officials said the blaze was contained within 12 hours and burning out, with at least one dead and 26 to 30 injured. Abqaiq produces over 800,000 barrels daily, about 10 percent of world supply, and was no longer threatening nearby facilities. Investigators weighed sabotage with Palestinian terrorist links claimed by a Capitol Hill source, while Aramco denied sabotage.
