Puts rubbish out too early faces fine

Robert Kiefer of 26396 Redwood Drive was the first resident cited Saturday night for placing trash early. He protested claiming the rubbish sat for 2 1/2 weeks after he set it out and questioned who owned the garbage. Another resident, Ron Robertson of Wood Drive, said he was unaware of the law.

British warship shells Argentine vessel near Falklands

A British warship shelled an Argentine vessel in the Falkland Channel, causing a large explosion but with no confirmation of sinking. Lorain forms panel to end skip day after fatal fall

A Lorain school committee and board members were named to press for ending the unauthorized skip day after Fred Dean, 17, died from a cerebral hemorrhage in a freak accident during a skip day party with about 50 Lorain High students. Police say a driver of a car was not charged.

Eaton woman charged in motorcyclist's death

Virginia Bates 49 of 2378 W Royalton Road was charged by the Ohio Highway Patrol with vehicular homicide for causing the death of Stuart Kraps 19 of Grafton in a Route 57 and Route 82 Eaton Township crash Saturday. Bates allegedly failed to yield while turning left, striking Kraps and his motorcycle and causing severe chest injuries.

Bill would limit coroners authority in Ohio

The Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association proposes a bill to curb coroner powers and restrict access to coroner reports. It would remove coroners records from public records status and require all documents to be stored in each county clerk of courts office rather than the coroner’s office.
