Ancient notes found in oak tree reveal 18th century currency
Three hundred dollars in United States Notes, dated 1749, were found in a hollow oak near the Tuscarawas trail in Augusia township, Canton. The paper crumbled in air, but a fragment showed the bill date. If preserved, the thirty ten dollar notes could have been worth about 1000 dollars each to collectors. Authorities note they may have been sent to a soldier during early frontier conflicts.
