Federal data show evictions and discharges rising since 2000, with 11,331 cases logged in 2014, while defenders argue discharges are sometimes necessary for safety and care.

Ex FBI agent pleads guilty to stealing seized cash
Former FBI agent Scott M. Bowman admitted stealing more than $136,000 from drug case seizures to fund a lavish lifestyle including plastic surgery and cars. He pleaded guilty in Riverside to obstruction of justice falsification of records witness tampering and conversion of property by a federal employee. Prosecutors say the case prompted drops against more than a dozen defendants and Bowman’s cooperation could aid anti corruption efforts in San Bernardino. The scheme involved three searches in 2014 in June and August, including a hotel room in Azusa netting almost $11,000 and another $4,600 from a related apartment.
