Apartment Fire Destroys Wing Leaving 22 Homeless
A two story U shaped Devon Court Apartments at 340 W Third St suffered a major blaze Friday afternoon. Firefighters battled thick smoke for over two hours as 56 personnel fought the fire. The incident caused an estimated 500000 in damage and left 22 residents homeless. Fire officials cited water supply strain and lack of fire walls as factors. Several residents and firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation or minor injuries. The blaze started in a closet waste basket and spread through ceilings to the attic before the roof collapsed in sections. The cause remains under investigation.
