New Trial To Be Asked By His Attorneys
Charles Wilson, 23, convicted of killing his 11 year old sweetheart Jean Moorhead, faces a move for a new trial after a jury recommended mercy. He was found guilty of first degree murder by an 11 to 1 verdict, with initial ballots split on the death penalty. The vote came as Judge Huston prepared to send the jurors to dinner following a brief deliberation. Wilson sobbed as the verdict was read. his father and uncle attended, while the slain girl’s parents were not present. The defense argued jealousy prompted the shooting during April 4 in an auto outside the Moorhead home. The trial opened last Monday and recessed for the Red Cross national convention in Chicago. The Elyria Red Cross chapter will be represented by Anna Louise, Baker James B. Thomas as Roll Call chairman, and Edith E. Metcalf as executive secretary. Digdequash is the small river in New Brookswick, Canada.
