Republic Steel announces a paid vacation option for 36000 employees in manufacturing across its firms. Workers may take paid leave or receive a pre Christmas vacation pay if they work instead, with eligibility for those with five years continuous service prior to December 34, 1935, still on payroll at adoption.》
National Tube Company at Lorain will grant vacations with pay to wage earners with five or more years of service. The plan, announced by J. A. Daniel, follows a notice to Paul Glass and signals broader moves across United States Steel and its plants. Some details remain to be settled as the company works out service and related questions.

Wellington volunteers fought a noon blaze that destroyed a large barn and contents on Mrs. Duane Perkins farm. Sparks from a field burn set off the straw stack fire, spreading to the barn and burning about 100 bushels of corn and a large quantity of hay.

George Miller 44 of Wisconsin Buffalo and other places attempted to cut his arm with a razor to escape city jail last evening but was unsuccessful. Miller and two companions William Coleman of Brooklyn and William Glenn were placed in the bum cell about 5 pm by Patrolman L D Brown after being found intoxicated at Broad and Middle avenues. About an hour later officers heard a commotion in the cell and found Miller bleeding from a deep cut on his right arm.
The Savings Deposit Bank and Trust Company was approved yesterday as a member of the Federal Reserve System and began operating under the Fed. The bank becomes the sole Fed member in Elyria, subject to ongoing Federal Reserve supervision and regular examinations.
Election officials announce new voting booth locations in four precincts. Ward 3 Precinct C moves to McKinley School. Precinct 3-E to Harvard and Sherman. Precinct 3-F to Denison Avenue between Park and Garford. Precinct 1-C to Perry Court. Polls run 6:30 a.m. to 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. Voters urged to vote early to reduce congestion.

In Clayton Missouri on May 9 Kilma Lenore White eighteen year old from Tulia Texas was found shot to death in the city park. Coroner L B Tiernan said the girl a student at a music school may have been murdered.

The dead were Charles Jason 17 Carson City Warne Wilson 16 Sheridan Wilson Bell 16 Carson City Coral Noriich 15 Buttermut Forrest Sparks 17 Carson City. Jarin St Josephs hospital here suffering serious injuries while James Hagerman another youth was less seriously injured.
About two hundred Lorain Countians are expected at a Monday night recognition dinner honoring the county Four-H club advisors. Reservations are still coming in. The Oberlin Methodist Church hosts the event with ten county agricultural organizations as sponsors. Judge Guy B. Finchey will deliver the principal address.
Washington May 9 Public Works Administrator Harold L Ickes ordered an immediate 25 percent slash in administrative personnel due to lack of funds.
The Ninth District Court of Appeals affirmed two common pleas judgments and reversed one. It dismissed appeals in two other cases after motions to dismiss by the appellee. The affirmances include Catherine Wiehrowski v Helen Acs and Bertha Baker v Frank Vam Arsdale. The reversal was Veronica Schneider v Frank Stetson estate. A $32,361 claim for an oral contract was at issue. Gertrude Levin v Jacoby Brothers Lorain was dismissed on appeal after a new trial order.

Governor Eugene Talmadge secured a broad victory for his financial dictatorship as the Georgia supreme court upheld his appointment of J. B. Daniel as state treasurer. The ruling ordered Atlanta banks to release 3 million dollars in state funds to Daniel.
The two day Republican mock convention in Oberlin drew a capacity crowd of about 3000 as delegates from across states and territories gathered to observe and forecast. Gifford Pinchot delivered the keynote praising relief from waste and “boondogging” and urging government efficiency under a standard Lincoln Roosevelt would have approved. The event featured a parade of 352 floats and broad political satire aimed at Washington and the New Deal era.

18 officers from Cleveland police and Sheriff Clarence W. Dick surrounded a rural farm north of South Amherst at 5 am and arrested a suspected bootlegger, his son 22, and another 24 for connections to Cleveland holdups and the Grafton bank robbery. A 25 gallon still and 359 gallons of mash were found. The youths, linked by photos to a County Savings and Loan robbery and multiple chain stores, were to be identified in Cleveland. One suspect had a prior robbery record in New York City. Deputies accompanied the sheriff. riot guns and bullet proof vests were used.
The Cleveland Presse reports a 20 man FBI squad in Cleveland tackling a political and gambling ring linked to 1934 gangster escapes. The unit operates under J Edgar Hoover with federal officials in the building denying knowledge of their actions.
US District Attorney Thomas J Mor disclosed details of a wide conspiracy to rob the United States mail. Eleven men were arrested or sought, including a Denver National Bank executive, a prominent attorney, and a member of a powerful Denver family. A Colorado politician and a noted underworld figure were also pursued by postal inspectors.
U S Senator dies as Florida Governor David Scholtz declares he will consider a successor to late Senator Park Trammell who passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage after a long illness. Trammell served four terms in the Senate and died at his home during a prolonged illness.
