Elyria Township Park at Rowland Nature Preserve Grows
A 12 acre pond at Rowland Nature Preserve near Murray Ridge Road is being spruced up with a bulldozed path and drainage improvements. The land was donated by Billy Rowland in 2009 with a park use stipulation plus gifts from Pandy's Garden Center and Lorain County Solid Waste. Future work includes handicapped access and a fishing pier. A cleanup planning meeting is set for Monday at the Township Hall with a May 21 9 am to Noon cleanup at the park entrance off Murray Ridge Road.

NFL Gulf Road closes for 180 days for bridge work
Gulf Road under I 90 will shut Monday for 180 days to replace a bridge. Detour goes Burns Road to North Abbe Road to Detroit Road with reverse for southbound traffic. Completion planned late October 2011.

Lorain arts council hosts first juried photo show
Lorain Arts County brings the first juried exhibition of the Lorain County Community College Photography Club titled Coming Into Focus at the Lorain Arts Council from May 14 to 21 with an opening reception and awards on May 14. Tiffany Mielarek and Diane Ramos will juror the show and also assist the students. Gallery hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
