Deadly Darrow Road manhunt ends in self-inflicted gunfire
Two hour pursuit for Delbert E. Sheppard Jr. ends when he shoots himself as Erie County deputies close in near Darrow Road. Police found a ground-off Colt Python revolver near his body after a state trooper was targeted on the Turnpike. Investigators are probing a prior Elyria arrest on rape, kidnapping and felony domestic violence charges.

Ohio EPA objects to Allied Waste landfill deal
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency opposes a Lorain County agreement with Allied Waste to reimburse $1.40 of the $4 per ton charged for out of county trash at a New Russia Township landfill. Since 2010 the district has reimbursed Allied over $1.1 million, while last year netted about $2.6 million in tipping fees.

Teens stab man while defending mother in Lorain County
A woman’s two teenage sons stabbed her boyfriend during a scuffle at 10821 LaGrange Road Carlisle Township. One teen was hospitalized and the boyfriend flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. conditions were not released.
