Star Trek fans form Lorain County IFT unit for charity and fun
The Lorain County IFT chapter led by Commander Thomas Heffner builds a worldwide fan network that promotes Star Trek values while raising funds for charity. Founding member H Hassage recalls contacting Gene Roddenberry and launching the group in 1983. Fans in costume enjoy discussions, ranks, and a Taylor Spencer daughter joins in. On May 6 several incidents were reported including Eddie Hildreth 38 of Cleveland on Portia Court with official business. Lawrence Davis 53 of Lorain charged with criminal trespassing after events on East Avenue and Foster Avenue. William Martin 27 of Lorain charged with theft of tools at Sears. A purse was stolen from a vehicle at Salvation Army with rear window shattered. On April 3 a burglary at Pitts Road Wellington Township involved $1,600 in valuables stolen. A theft case and damaged window were reported at Elyria Schools Administration Building. Moses Young 24 of Lorain charged with marijuana possession and driving under suspension on East 32nd Street and Clinton Avenue.
