State building too small for office needs in Ohio

Ohio's new state office building is not large enough to meet current government space needs and possible future expansions. The Senate investigation committee will report next week to the General Assembly. The project would cost about 6.08 million more than the 2.9 million appropriated, with no heating plan funded and no available funds to finish. Former Senator Paul Mo Herbert drafted the report. The committee finished its inquiry Thursday and will present to the Senate and Governor White Earl next week. The report contains no recommendations.

State building plan faces space and expansion limits

The committee reports the proposed building will yield about 211,900 square feet of office space including 18,223 for the state library, while agencies say 275,000 square feet are needed. Architects and the building commission argue the structure suffices and can expand to 1940, making sale of the Wyandot building unlikely. The panel recommends retaining the Wyandot site and renting space until a wing is added.
