Traficant files independent bid in 17th district race
U S Rep James A Traficant Jr former nine term Democrat convicted last month of racketeering bribery and tax evasion declares candidacy for re election as an independent. Traficant runs in the newly drawn 17th District while residing in the 6th District witha labor base split by Warren Davis UAW Region 2 director also running as an independent. The district spans Summit Portage Trumbull and Mahoning counties with about 58 percent of voters in his current home area and 42 percent in Sawyer territory.

Four Lorain men charged in January motel assault case
Two Lorain men Clayton Wi 19 and Desimen Wright 20 were indicted on multiple counts of reported incident and Wright also on falsification. Two other defendants Larry Jackson Jr 27 and Marcus Whitfield 19 had prior indictments. Woman allegedly pressured to return home and refused, then assaulted. all suspects held or bonded as court records show.

Lockdown Ordered at Wellington High After Threat Call
Wellington High School went into lockdown Monday after a threatening call warned of a riot. Principal Terry King placed staff on alert and requested police inside and outside the building while the Safe School Hotline, long in operation, urged anonymous reporting of threats.
