Community rallies to aid families facing medical and fire losses
Neysa Stroup Black River reports area residents opened their hearts and pocket books to two families in need. The Workinger family of West Salem received 2065 for medical bills while Debbie Workinger’s rare spinal condition required care at Akron Children's Hospital. The Cox family, who lost their home to a fire in Spencer, received 661 in donations from Farmers Savings Bank via Rev Deane Bush and community efforts. Local churches organized a smorgasbord to fund the Workinger relief and residents provided clothing, furniture, and household items. The period also features honors for Kelly McAleese in the Ohioana Creative Writing Contest, retirement reception for Wilbur Weir, and ongoing career days at Sullivan Elementary School. Public meetings ahead for Black River and Spencer boards.

Clearview Board Opposes Finance Bill Cuts
Naso reports Ohio House Bill 530 trims school financing by 5.2 percent, not the promised 1642 percent, leaving deficits. He calls the move a political coup and says the smaller cut won’t eliminate shortfalls. The board appropriated 706000 for short term loans to fund operations.
