Eyewitness describes chaos after a ROTC building fire and gunfire on Kent State campus. National Guardsmen reassembled as bodies lay among the flaming common and parking lot, with a girl crying for help and a wounded youth bleeding on the asphalt.
The Kent State University protest ended in a three second rifle volley by about 20 National Guardsmen killing four students and wounding ten as guardsmen retreated under rocks and amid chants and cries. Allison Krause, a 19 year old freshman, was among the dead.
Nine students are named among the dead and injured after gunfire on a university campus during riot conditions sparked by President Nixon's Cambodia announcement. Gov Rhodes orders a full investigation and National Guard deployment. Brig. Gen Canterbury reports the clash began with guards surrounded by about 600 demonstrators. a shot preceded the guards' volley.
Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James A McCrystal granted a permanent injunction blocking Elyria plans to buy a $200000 one acre parking lot on Middle Avenue for a $3 million county administration building. The ruling paused the city county deal amid arguments about possible jail use and downtown traffic impacts.
