School board fires Sheffield Middle teacher Donald Marshall

The Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Board of Education unanimously voted to terminate English and science teacher Donald Marshall after a Friday night meeting following executive session. The board cited sexual improprieties alleged by former student Chad Breeden during 1979 80 and other students, plus charges of corrupting a minor and gross sexual imposition. Marshall faces a Lorain County grand jury indictment and can appeal in court.

Four arrested at Oberlin CIA protest on campus

Four people including two Oberlin College students were arrested after refusing to stop chanting anti CIA slogans in Peters Hall during a protest. They faced inciting to violence and disorderly conduct charges and were held on bonds pending Monday arraignments in Oberlin Municipal Court while 66 protesters participated overall.

Witness says deputy could not search shooting victim

Elyria man Michael Findon was shot once by Deputy Christopher Sams on Grafton Road after allegedly fleeing a prior stop outside the Pioneer Lounge. Tom Hogan, bartender at the lounge, testified he saw the deputy instruct Findon and that no frisk occurred before the shooting. Hospital officials reported Findon improved to fair condition and out of intensive care. Hogan said he and others witnessed from inside and outside, with Hogan insisting Findon was not frisked and that a tree blocked his view of the moment of the shot.

Elyria Man Killed In Car Van Crash

A 47-year-old Elyria man, Ora L. White, died when his eastbound car collided head on with a van driven by Janet S. Bogan on Elyria Milan Road near the Murray Ridge Road intersection. Bogan, 19, was in critical condition with leg and head injuries at Elyria Memorial Hospital. An eyewitness reported seeing the van left of center. The crash occurred about 11 p.m. Friday near the General Motors Fisher Guide plant.

Meese Says Americans Back Bitburg Trip

Ashland Ohio AP Reagan plans to visit Bitburg cemetery in Germany on Sunday and believes Americans support the visit. Meese reported Reagan was cheerful and optimistic before departure and expects public support as facts emerge. Meese spoke at the John M Ashbrook memorial dinner noting criticism over 2000 German soldiers buried there.
