Draft Law Extension Moves Through House Committee

The House Armed Services Committee unanimously approved a two year extension of the draft law, with no inductions allowed without congressional approval. The act, expiring June 24, keeps current registration rules for 18, 19 through 25 year olds and extends inductions to 21 months unless Congress acts. Gen Omar N Bradley urged extension, saying it buys about four months for emergencies, and the bill also would empower the president with congressional approval to seize key industrial facilities in a war emergency.
