Plan To Make It Easier To Enact Levies
In Columbus Ohio on May 4 the Legislature favored easing real estate levy rules to boost relief funds. Governor Bricker backs lowering to a majority in 1939 and 55 percent in 1940, with proceeds limited to relief. The plan faces opposition from the Ohio Farm Bureau and State Grange but gains rural support. A cross‑party coalition backs the broader relief program and a $218 million appropriation, with hoped for quick passage next week and potential adjournment by May 25.
