One of biggest drug busts in history in Miami
A smuggling ring that supplied 5 percent of the nation's marijuana was so profitable it funded a small army with grenades and sniper scopes. Federal agents arrested 13 of 14 indicted by a Miami grand jury on racketeering, with U.S. Attorney General Griffin Bell calling it a historic roundup. Over 16 months the ring allegedly imported more than 1 million pounds of Colombian cannabis and secured cocaine, buying pot for 35 to 80 dollars per pound.

Daily aspirin may prevent heart attacks in monkeys
CHICAGO UP I reports Michael Reese Hospital researchers found daily aspirin in 11 cynomagus monkeys on a high cholesterol diet reduced artery plaque formation. Five of the monkeys received orange flavored child’s aspirin and after six months those on aspirin had wider coronary arteries than untreated peers.
