Pick-n-Pay tycoon slain in kidnap and botched ransom
Cleveland area detectives moved to obtain warrants for two men linked to the kidnapping of Julius Kravitz and his wife Georgina. Kravitz, 67, chairman of First National Supermarkets, was killed by gunfire. Mrs. Kravitz, 56, wounded. Suspects, one an auxiliary police officer, allegedly used a motel room and a forged police disguise in the $1.5 million ransom plot. Police tied the pair through interview locations, a license plate, and a motel check-in, with the crime ending at a Howard Johnsons after they fled in Kravitzs car.

Edison and CEI get over 146 million in Ohio PUCO rate increases
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved more than 146 million in rate increases for Ohio Edison Co and Cleveland Electric illuminating Co. Ohio Edison receives an 86.2 million emergency hike while CEI gets 60.4 million. The order sets a 10.09 percent rate of return for CEI and includes the Davis Besse plant in the rate base. Base rates rise 17.7 percent excluding fuel.
