Arlington freighter sinks in Lake Superior storm
The 240 foot Arlington, led by Burke Towing of Superior, sank off Superior Shoal in Lake Superior during a heavy wind and snowstorm. Captain Fred Burke perished with the vessel. 16 crewmen survived in lifeboats and were rescued by the Collingwood and brought to safety after the ship broke apart. Captain Burke, 59, was brother to George and Dave Burke of the towing firm.

Elyria High to Award Diplomas for Second Largest Class
