Hertz finds used cars cost half as much to own
A Hertz study shows a used car driven 10,000 miles annually for three years costs about 16.2 cents per mile, versus 30.1 cents for a new car. Depreciation, fuel, insurance, maintenance and repairs drive the gap, with used cars already cheaper early in life and remaining advantageous through year three.
