In Columbus Ohio the legislature laboriously moved toward a compromise on the 1937 1938 state expenditures bill. A six member conference committee sought to salvage savings and restore about $700 000 to the measure while eyeing an $800 000 restoration for the State Tax Commission. If adjournment comes without an appropriations bill the governor may call a special session before June 30.

Washington May 1 A third economy plan was advanced in a budget dispute between Senate and House leaders. Rep Clifford Woodrum urged reconsideration of all appropriation bills in committee with further reductions. He opposed the Senate 10 percent cut and the House 15 percent plan. Leaders warned the rift risks the administration budget goals. The dispute also involves a proposed 1.5 billion relief bill for next fiscal year.

Auto Crashes Into Culvert Two Killed
Two men died when their car left the William Penn highway five miles east of Mifflintown Pennsylvania and struck a concrete culvert. Alvin H.
