Cleanup history marks end of J Tech era at Olive and Taylor

The former General Industries site once housed 12 buildings with a century of manufacturing. J Tech Technologies owner John Peshek left the property after a 2008 fire. EPA cleanup ran nearly $1 million in 2009 followed by a Phase I assessment funded by the state. State grants supported Phase II findings of subsurface petroleum byproducts but not hindering redevelopment. The city agreed to take ownership, while Peshek received $10,000 for cooperation and the county forgave over $80,000 in taxes. Contact Lisa Roberson for details.
