Rape sentences anger defense in Massachusetts case
Four immigrant men received six to twelve year terms for the Big Dan’s tavern rape in New Bedford. Judges sentenced Daniel Silva Vitor Riposo John Cordeiro and Joseph Vieira after juries found them guilty on March 17 1984. Vieira faces at least four years before parole and the crowd protested outside the Bristol County Courthouse while supporters urged deterrence in the state.
