McCarthy Diminished Effectiveness Cited by Hall in Feud
Omaha, Neb. Republican National Chairman Leonard Hall says Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s effectiveness has diminished since the Army clash. Hall tells local GOP leaders it’s their call whether to invite McCarthy’s aid in campaigns, noting the senator remains in demand as a campaign speaker but will not have the party endorsement as an official spokesman. He says Eisenhower or Nixon would speak for the party officially. Hall reports mixed views among leaders nationwide, with no consensus beyond disagreement over McCarthy’s feud and investigation methods.
