Could a budget repeal come with tax referendum
Ohio Supreme Court cleared the way for a possible state referendum on the income tax. Atty Gen Wallace Brown said passage of a constitutional amendment would repeal the budget and all tax provisions, including severance taxes and cigarette tax hikes, plus individual and corporate income taxes. Rep Joseph Pulley disagreed, saying only the tax provisions would be affected and the budget would be revised to reflect revenue loss. The outcome hinges on signatures and timing. the court action allows circulation for petitions, with a statewide drive planned to fund petition efforts and organize signature gathering.
