Cleveland Woman Free After Alleged Pole Destruction Attempt
Mrs Joanne Brooks, 69, of Cleveland, was freed on 200 bond after being arrested for attempting to chop down a telephone pole with a hatchet while a repairman worked atop the pole. Ohio Bell charged her with malicious destruction. Repairman Steven Plank, 24, testified he was attaching a line to a 40 foot pole in her yard when Brooks, accompanied by her German shepherd, ordered him off and began the attack.

Shultz warns of possible nationwide rail stoppage

Lorain Housing Authority Member resigns Over Civic Duties
Mitchell Zunich of Lorain announced his resignation from the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority citing his other civic obligations. He denied discord with the federal government caused the move and noted roles with the Clearview School Board and as president of the Lorain YMCA. he previously served as vice chairman. Other members include E. C. Harr as chairman, A. C. Shibjev, John Esk, and Thomas Jenkins.

Oberlin School Chief Duncan Resigns After 12 Years
Robert W. Duncan, Oberlin District schools superintendent for 12 years, resigns effective July 31 with 35 years in public education. He began as an elementary principal at West Milton, later taught and led at Greenville, then moved to Oberlin to succeed Harry Ross. Duncan is an Ohio State University AB graduate in biology, physical science, and administration.

Medina County man charged with illegal slaughtering
Edwin Frambach of Neff Road was charged in Elyria Municipal Court with slaughtering without a license after Lorain County deputies arrested him at his home. Tests found staphylococci and high coliform counts in meat sold from his farm slaughterhouse. Carcasses of seven cows, two ponies, a sheep and other carcasses were found on the Neff Road farm.
