Strike spreads in Ohio bituminous mines amid wage dispute
In March, the Sivika movement among bituminous miners expands to additional plants as operators press wage cuts. About 7,000 workers in Hocking Valley began a February strike protesting pay reductions and demanding UMWA recognition. Eastern Ohio operators offer a choice between cuts or mine closures and Hanna Coal mines at Piney Fork and Dillienville see 856 idle miners after wage rejection. A flight by Adjutant Greverat Fran Wenderson reports to George White that troops may be sent into strike zones.
