Two Medina County women die in separate road wrecks

Betty L Pitz 30 of Spencer died at Medina Community Hospital from a fractured skull after a single vehicle crash on Smith Road west of the Medina city limits. Catherine Walpole, 1967 Oberlin College graduate, was killed when her car collided with an eastbound tractor trailer on Rt 18 near Rt 57. The accidents occurred within about 20 minutes of each other as icy conditions contributed. Kenneth Brown of Charlotte, N C, injured passenger in the tractor trailer, remained in satisfactory condition at Medina Community Hospital. driver William Kimsey cited for driving left of center.

Man drowns in farm pond near Brighton

Elon E Searles 62 of Peck Wadsworth Rd died in an apparent accidental drowning after being found in a farm pond. His son in law and sheriff reports describe a note about fixing a water pump and his wife locating him near the pond. He was pronounced dead at Southern Lorain County Hospital Wellington.

Fierce spring snowstorm hits Ohio roads hard

A winter snowstorm sweeps across Ohio causing three deaths from icy roads and widespread travel disruption. Dayton reports up to 10 inches while Cincinnati sees 9 inches with drifts blocking interstates 75 and 7. Dozens of vehicles left ditches or stood stalled as buses and race tracks suspend operations and flights halt. Weather shifts to flurries with warming outlook to Monday.

Reds batter Khe Sanh in 18 hour siege

North Vietnamese artillery pounded the U S Marine base at Khe Sanh for 18 hours at a rate of about one shell per minute. U S B 52 bombers countered with seven strikes around the camp while Navy and Air Force fighters joined 186 missions nearby. Light Marine casualties were reported as the attack began at dusk Friday.
