Townsend Plan Talk Draws 300 At Elyria High

Rev William Flammer told a crowd of 300 at Elyria High School that the Townsend Old Age Pension plan is a vital national recovery and reconstruction effort. He argued the plan would provide 200 a month to citizens over 60 funded by a 2 percent tax, start with 1.5 to 2 billion borrowed from the federal government, and potentially cut unemployment and crime while boosting buying power. Co M Williams urged petitions and town clubs as 20,000,000 Americans already signed. The talk ended with audience questions and a note on Debussy's pentatonic scale.
