Black student protests spur changes in Elyria and Lorain schools
Protests by black students in Elyria and Lorain last November prompted district leaders to begin new black oriented programs, more black teachers and administrators, and a yearlong black history course. Supt Calta and Principal Miller emphasize opening doors is not enough without active participation, while efforts include talk-ins and increased library materials on black history.
